My Moving Advent, floods, drought and more...

About a week ago whilst on Twitter, @t1ckledp1nk and @mumonthebrink came up with the clever idea of charting our course to moving day with a "#movingadvent". We are now on #19sleepstogo and I'm still not entirely sure how we will get in! WRM however remains confident (see previous blog post!).

Over the weekend we had a flurry of activity stripping walls and pulling out old carpets. We even managed to create a swimming pool in the dining room, almost drowning the children in the process!

A pipe had cracked during the winter despite the gracious attempts of the previous owner to drain the pipes before the frosts arrived. We feared this and were reassured by him that no leaks existed and went ahead with the big water switch on (a little like Oxford Street Christmas lights!).
It was going well, swimmingly you might say, until all of a sudden a great torrent of water came through the ceiling narrowly missing the littlest tiddler in his bouncy chair by an inch or two! We fetched buckets and the water was hastily switched back off to await the plumber due the next day leaving us with only the 2 litres of water I had brought in a plastic bottle.

Although 2 litres seems a lot of water, it does not go a long way. Washing up, drinking and cleaning hands became a stringent task using only drops of water, forcing me think about how much I take water for granted in this wet and rainy part of the Wales.
If I want a cup of tea I turn on the tap, fill the kettle and flick a switch, (maybe check FB and Twitter while it boils) and then pour the water into my teapot. Imagine life without such luxuries.
Even within Britain we spent a huge chunk of the spring without water leading to dust bowl gardens, dry reservoirs and farmers and gardeners alike, cursing and tweeting the lack of H20.

Those in Developing Countries have an unimaginable time. At this time in East Africa over 10 million people are at risk due to conflict and some areas being affected by the worst drought in 60 years. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) work to bring together UK charities. Their current appeal if for those affected by the East Africa Crisis. This appeal will support the work of our members in affected areas of Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and South Sudan.  Donations made can help provide life saving aid such as food, water, care for malnourished children and medical treatment.
Maybe if each of us could find £2 to give to the DEC rather than a somewhat pointless ticket for the Euromillions (which i have forgotten to do... again) we could actually make a difference #justsaying.
On the otherhand if the winner of the Euromillions just happens to read this blog then please donate as much as you feel able to the DECAppeal!
